The Local Government Pension Scheme is available to all councillors elected to a local authority in Scotland, including such councillors when exercising functions as a convenor or vice-convenor of a joint board. To be able to join the LGPS you need to be under age 75. If you are eligible for membership of the LGPS you will automatically become a member of the main section of the scheme, but you have the right to decide not to join the scheme. You cannot complete an opt out form until you have started in your office as a councillor.  You will be taken through the relevant paperwork during the induction programme.

An Employee Assistance programme is available for everyone within Aberdeenshire Council. This free, confidential and independent counselling and advice is available to you and can be incredibly useful when dealing with stress or challenges, be those professional or personal.

ALDO (Aberdeenshire Learning and Development Online) is our electronic learning system enabling you to access learning from any location, using any device that is connected to the internet and all at a time suitable for yourself. To access the system you will be provided with your log in details, a username and password.

You have access to all courses available on ALDO, however, there is a dedicated area developed for Elected Members containing a range of courses and resources you may find useful. You will be given log-in details shortly, from the ALDOsupport team. Should you require support please contact aldosupport@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

There are a few links to the left, drawn from the IT Hub, which will be important for you to read and understand.  There is a link to the Acceptable use of IT equipment for you to be aware of, and there is also a link to the latest on cyber security and keeping safe online. As with all of this portal, some of these links will only work once you are accessing them from a council laptop and you may need to wait until issued with one before the links become available.
